With only a slightly embarrassing delay, here we have my special Homegame mix, entitled "Elektro Fiziks" (for reasons that should be fairly obvious) pristine and ready for you to download:
http://bit.ly/dBkM2U
For the uninitiated, every year at the Homegame Festival some kind soul organises a compilation CD lucky dip, giving everyone a chance to inflict their musical proclivities upon fellow bearded musos. Last year it proved to be a major hit and so it was something very much looked forward to again this year.
I still haven't heard from the lucky (or unfortunate - however you see it) person who picked this mix out of the hat. But it would be a shame, I think, only to inflict it upon only one person, so here it is for all and sundry to get their grubby hands on.
By now it seems almost hardly necessary to point out, having become something of a trademark, but the usual caveats do apply about appalling mixing skills. Maybe someone will teach me, one day...
Adios!

Dog Show
Electrofreaks.com brings news of the eagerly awaited debut LP from canine electro genius Rex The Dog, apparently titled "The Rex The Dog Show" and the lead single, "I Can See You, You Can See Me". The latest track is not quite as in-yer-face as previous singles, but I kinda like it...
Bizarrely, I have also discovered that the man behind Rex the Dog was also responsible for early 90s eurodance classic "You Belong To Me" by JX.... Remember this one?
I am now on a mission to discover the early 90s cheesey secrets of today's credible underground electro producers, so watch this space!
In the interests of stupid eclecticism, I've noted that this should make an interesting combination with the new James Yorkston album that's due out at the beginning of September also!

Neon
Look, if I haven't bored you already about how bloody brilliant the new Neon Neon album is then you better brace yourself...
Anyway, in preperation for the inevitable barrage of over-enthusiasm, feast thy ears upon this Pitchfork gem, a mix by Boom Bip, cataloguing the influences behind 'Stainless Style'. Essential stuff.

I didn't feel my head touch the ground,
Someone I love said goodbye,
I never knew someone could make me cry,
Like this"

State
"You know it makes no difference.
Whether we talk or not.
And it's much harder going in there sometimes.
And jumping down from the top.
But if you talk to me I will listen to you.
With my eyes, my ears, my heart."
Swayzak feat. Kirsty Hawkshaw, "State of Grace", 2003

Firefox AK (ABC2, Glasgow) 16/2/07
Rating: | ★★★★ |
Category: | Music |
Genre: | Pop |
Artist: | Firefox AK |
Alone on stage, and utilising only an iPod and a white Fender as weapons, Firefox AK steadily won over a sedentary audience, with her synthy backing tracks and some jagged guitar work.
With the minimal setup adding a palpable edge to the more polished album tracks, this was an exciting set, and one can't help wondering what a spectacle it would be to see this artist with a full backing band.
Very enjoyable.
Hear more at theFirefox AK Myspace page.
I also heartily recommend the album 'Madame! Madame!' on the Razzia label. Nothing earth shattering, just quality electro-pop, like it should be.

Kissy Sell Out
http://www.myspace.com/kissysellout
I uniformly hate Myspace (a mixture of blind prejudice and vile snobbery, but nonetheless valid, i feel), so I must first apologise for linking to that particular arm of the Murdoch behemoth. This, however has to be witnessed. And no, I'm not talking about the horrendous, god-awful page background (my rant about Myspace turning back the web design clock a good ten years is far too long and tedious for this space).
Here we have the British answer to French electro Gods Justice. First single "Her" (one of my records of 2006) should provide good indication of the area we're in here, as will a perusal of the various remixes available from the myspace page and the related podomatic site. All top notch, gritty electro grime (if that's your bag) with basslines that'll shake your speakers to the core (as well as shaking up your mind, maaaan). And as for the Libertines remix... how much would I like to get my hands on a nice clean vinyl copy of THAT? (The measure is likely to be inverse to the likelyhood of it actually ever appearing...)
